Jack has woken from a century-long slumber to tell Beau that she’s unwittingly been drafted into a power struggle between two immortal races: Demons and Gargoyles. The knife is the only one in existence capable of killing immortals and they’ll tear the world apart to get it back. To draw the warring immortals away from her home, Beau goes with Jack in search of the mind-bending realm known as the Underworld, a place where they’ll hopefully be able to destroy the knife and prevent all hell from breaking loose. That is, provided they can outrun the demons chasing them

Here's a taste of what Louise has to offer!

Excerpt:

As a general rule, nobody walks the Switch on account of the overgrown nettle bushes, a pungent aroma of foot infection, and a collective fear of encountering something feral. However, the Switch shaves at least ten minutes off my journey, and lately I don’t trust the dark. I blame my encounter with the almost-corpse, two nights ago. Before then the dark was just a natural progression; something to be slept in, a different color in the sky. Now, shadows make me jump, and the dark carries a silence that makes me think of funerals. It breathes life into creatures that had always been safely contained behind a TV screen. I make my way down the Switch, striding over vicious flora and trying to ignore the occasional nip that sinks straight through my jeans.

“Hey, Beau!” A voice from behind startles me. When I turn, Gray is jogging in my direction, thwarting thorn bushes with his bare hands. “I was looking for you.”

The hairs on the back of my neck bristle. My hand is in my pocket, and my fingers are wrapped around a slender cylinder of pepper spray as he reaches me.

“Well you found me. What’s up?”

“There’s something I need to ask you,” he says sheepishly. He hammers his toe against the ground, grinding it nervously into the dirt and crushing several stems of dandelion into gold dust. He giggles; it’s a soft, sweet sound that suffocates my hostility. He reminds me of Mark moments before he’d asked me out on our first date. Maybe this guy could be the one to liberate me from my social network sabbatical. Maybe my slightly-too-heavy eyeliner and my reputation as the mortician’s daughter hasn’t freaked him out.

“Really?” Surprise raises my pitch. “What’s that?” The pepper spray is abandoned in my pocket.

“Where’s the knife?” he replies, snatching my throat and slamming my back up against the concrete wall. It’s so forceful, so hard, that my spine ripples. Red flashes across my vision. The muscles in my neck go slack, and my head flops forward. He stabs his thumb up under my chin, forcing me to look him in the eye. His eyes are like the moon; cold, giant circles of icy-silver. But a change in his eye color is nothing in comparison to the change happening on either side of his head. I don’t understand it. It makes me wonder, briefly, if what I’m seeing is a side effect of the migraine pills Leah slipped me at lunch. Gray is growing horns. Giant grey horns that slide out of the side of his skull and then curl like springs around his ears. They’re animal.

Totally Fictitious Fight Between eReader and Paper Books

People seem to be one or the other on this subject. Some scoff at ever reading a book on an electronic device. Others point and laugh when they see someone reading from the outdated print style books. So I thought we might look at the argument from a perspective that we have forgotten about...the books themselves. So here they are, talking themselves up, eBook and Paper. (Hence forth known as E and P)

P: As you know the eBook revolution has come to try and knock me off my long standing throne as the primary way to read book. I tell you I will not stand for this.

E: Yawn. I'm bored even looking at you, with your dog eared pages and torn corners.

P: Yeah, and your paint scrubbed off, cracked from being dropped, look is soooo much better.

E: Hey at least people can spruce me up with a cover. What do you do, fall apart?

P: (ignores the slight) At least people can read me whenever they chose. I never run out of battery at a crucial moment in the story.

E: That hardly ever happens....

P: Riiiight...

E: Speaking of running out, that's what your readers have to do every time they want you. Run out. Not to mention long waits in line, or the disappointment of discovering the last copy of the book they wanted just walked out the door ahead of them. Nor, do they have to deal with the snooty clerks who always seem to be judging their reading choices. They can sit at home, click a button and POOF there I am, ready to be enjoyed. And, for my shy readers, they can read the steamy books without having the world know what they are reading. Unlike you with your brazen, half naked people on your cover.

P: Yeah, but not in the bath.

E: Excuse me?

P: They can't read you in the bath. If you look at water wrong, you're going to explode.

E: There are cases you can get to make eReaders waterproof.

P: Really? That's coo–– I mean...yeah, but you have to pay extra.

E: Speaking of cost...aren't you more expensive than I am?

P: Sometim––

E: And don't you kill, like, thousands of trees? Dude, not cool on the environment.

P: Yeah, like the factories they use to make you are soooo clean.

E: Not too much different from the factories they use to turn trees into paper.

P: (concedes but doesn't want to admit it)

E: And I take up much less space. How many bookshelves do you have anyway? Seriously, you're getting to be an eye sore. Look at all the dust you collect.

P: At least I'm always there. One wrong drop and you're toast. Oh, not to mention the upgrades. Isn't there a new version of you out like, every five minutes?

E: (says nothing)

P: That's what I thought.

E: But look at all the amazing authors readers will miss out on if they stick to you. Lots of people and publishers are going to eBooks only. You only offer a limited selection. And when was the last time someone offered a print book for free? You can get free eBooks all the time. That negates some of my cost...

P: And least people can still read me if the electricity goes out.

E: Which happens all the time *rolls eyes*

P: And what would you do if the electricity went out and never came back on? I mean you would be a worthless pile of junk. People would still get to read me.

E: Or burn you for warmth.

P: Whatever, you just don't have an answer. The only thing you would be good for is something to throw at the zombies.

E: Zombies?

P: Well something had to make the electricity go off.

E: If you're going to be ridiculous, I'm outta here.

P: Don't let the proverbial door hit you on the way out, it might crack your screen...

E: Oh don't worry P, I'm here to stay. You just don't want to admit it.

At this point I had to separate the two. It was getting ugly.

The Dog, The Snake, and The Road Trip

The morning was clear and calm until....

Nah, I'm not going to go all writerly on you. I'll just tell you what happened.

A few days ago I let the dog out into our backyard. The sprinklers had just turned off so the ground was nice and soft. Too tempting for a digging dog to resist. After a few minutes I realized that I hadn't seen the dog in a while. My daughter was sitting outside the back porch door, also taking advantage of the wet soil and was digging her own hole. I asked her where the dog got off too.

She runs around one corner of the house and shouts, "Not here!"  Around the next corner.
"Mom I found her!" Then...

"Hey mom! The dog's bothering a worm!"

Now, we have been having a lot of rain and the millipedes have out in full force. I can not tell you how many times I've had to shout, "Stop playing with those!" At first, I didn't think much about it. But something told me that I should probably investigate. So I walk around the corner.

Yeah, soooo not a worm.

The dog is trying to pull this long snake out of the ground, like a chicken pulls a caterpillar. I go running over screaming for her to drop it. She does and I grab her collar and drag her back inside.*cue bad mobster accent* Then I grab a shovel to go to take of it.

When I go back, it's slithered backed down it's hole. I'm no herpetologist, but I do know that bright colors mean trouble. I came inside and started up my computer. I wasn't wearing my glasses so I was hoping that I had seen enough to identify it. While I was flipping through websites my daughter realized that she had left a toy outside. She went out the side door to get it. I was engrossed in my research, so I missed her leaving. When I look up my daughter was inside, but the door was still wide open...and the dog was missing.

*%#(*)#

So I run back outside and sure enough, this dog has found the damn snake a second time. And is pulling it out of the ground. I'm screaming at her to stop but she succeeds on jerking it out. It dangles out of her mouth for just a few seconds, then wraps itself around her muzzle.

Then she began to shake it mercilessly. The snake just winds tighter.  The whole time I'm shouting, "Dropitdropitdropit!"

Finally she does. I left the shovel by the snake hole last time, just in case. Maybe I'm psychic. Anyway, I drug the dog away and picked up the shovel. I tried, I don't know how many times, to get it's head off but the ground was too soft and the shovel wouldn't go through. So I beat it to death. I'm sure I sounded like a loon as I slammed the shovel down over and over again, yelling at everyone else to stay back.

Finally the snake stopped moving.  I took a quick picture of it, knowing I would need one to identify what type of snake it was. Then did what every cliche killer on the face of the planet does. I wrapped it's limp body in a plastic bag, tied it up, and tossed it in the trash.

Using the picture as a reference I eventually did find it's name on line. Coral Snake––and yes it's venomous. Double damn.

I call an emergency vet, who recommended I call a clinic an hour and a half away because they specialize in venomous snake bites. I do. He recommends that I take the dog to my vet right away. I do.

My vet says there's nothing they can do and to take her to the clinic that I had just called...who had sent me to them. Blergh. So...I do.

After a conversation with them I come home and get directions to the clinic. Now me, an active four year old, and a husky  who's not quite a year old get to take a nice long car ride. Yay us. *sarcasm intended*

I guess becoming a snake wrangler took it's toll on the dog, because for once she wasn't a bouncing mess in the car. We get there and they usher us right back a room. The vet comes out and informs me they can't find a bite mark, but that's not uncommon for coral snakes because their fangs are small. There's no way for us to know whether she's been bitten.

There is an antivenin but it's fairly pricey. Now I'm on the fence. I can pay a crap load for, a possibly unneeded treatment, or I can take leave her with them for observation. If she has been bitten, the delay could cause major distress, even death. It could also cost us five times as much to keep her alive.

Double Blergh.

In the end we decided on the treatment. We left her there with the vet and all the way home my four year old is insisting that we will never see her again, and how she's all alone. Thanks for the guilt trip kiddo.

The next night I get a day I get a phone call. This is what he said, and this is how I translated it.

He said: Solei is a very strong dog.
Translation: She probably knocked someone down

He said: She was very anxious all night.
Translation: She whined and dug at the crate and drove us all crazy.

He said: Since she is doing so well, and we are close to the 36 hour observation window, and her anxiety is high, I think we can let her go home this evening.

Translation: OMG. Come and take this lunatic dog out of here before we all lose it.

When we get to the vet's office that night we get the run down. They had to take out her blanket, bedding, and plastic tray because she was destroying it. Then she kept flipping over her water bowl. Next she started tearing at the crate itself, so they put her in a sound proof plexiglass cage.

Great, my dog was put in the Hannibal Lecter cage. That makes a dog owner proud.

She responded great to the treatment, or she wasn't bit, we're still not sure which. But we did get to bring her home, that's the important part.

Time Changes Everything Highlight!

Time Changes Everything
by Melinda Dozier

This book is amazing! I had Melinda stop by and answer a few questions.

What made you decide to be an author?

Reading. I’ve always been a fond reader of romance and a decent writer, so I thought, “Hey, I can write this stuff!” That’s how it all began – first as a hobby then later as a second career.

What drew you to the romance genre?

Romance has always been on my shelves and bedside tables. I’m a romantic at heart, so it was a given that I’d write romance.

What does your writing space look like?

This is a rather funny question. We have an office at home and this past Christmas we set it up, painted the walls, added artwork, made it beautiful. Do I use it? Not much. It ended up being the boys study room and hubbies workspace. So, I mainly work at the table in our garden or in my bed. I’m fine with that!

What are some things you would like your readers to know about you?

Mainly that I write what I like to read and I hope they enjoy it!

How much fun did you have writing Time Changes Everything?

Time Changes Everything is like a baby to me. It grew from something small to a huge project. I loved creating these characters that I first had no idea about. Researching their jobs, their lives was fun. I get to live through them.

Thanks so much for having me! It’s a pleasure to be at your blog, JE!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I really did love this book!

Don't Forget to Read on to find out how to get your copy of Time Changes Everything and a chance to win a gift card!

Time Changes Everything will be available May 13 through Entranced Publishing.
Amanda Larson is dedicated to her job and doesn't want to make time for anything else. Until she runs into Jake Edwards. He used to be the cute boy next door; now he's a sexy, big shot lawyer.

Jake Edwards isn't interested in commitment. He's successful, sexy, and single--and that's how he likes it. When he reconnects with Amanda, Jake realizes he might have to rethink his philosophy on the carefree, bachelor lifestyle.

But, is it too late for them? Or can he convince her that he's ready to give her his heart?
Author Bio
Reading romance has always been at the top of Melinda’s favorite past times. After hectic days of teaching English to middle school students, Melinda finds time to write and read in the evenings. She lives in Guatemala, Central America with her husband, three boys and German Sheppard. She enjoys being the queen of her household and dreams of being pampered fully by her boys once they are grown. Melinda loves reality TV, traveling, blogging and playing Words With Friends.
